Are you passionate about protecting public health? A great opportunity has arisen to join the Water Regulations team within Water Engineering. Water Regulations exist to protect the public drinking water supply, and our team are passionate in delivering for our customers and stakeholders at all levels.

No two inspections are the same and we are privileged in witnessing how essential our water supply is to the customers we serve through their own unique processes and requirements. All the while you will be raising awareness of the Water Fittings Regulations and safeguarding the public drinking water supply.

As a Water Regulation Officer, you will:

  • Have a sound understanding of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 (WFR),

  • Understand the different kinds of plumbing systems and how they work.

  • Undertake inspections of new, altered, repaired, disconnected, or extended plumbing and water using systems within existing domestic and non-domestic premises to check for compliance with the WFR.

  • Provide advice as a subject matter expert on the WFR. Such advice may include an explanation of the WFR, individual responsibilities under the WFR, and to comment if proposed or actual installations contravene the WFR.

  • Support internal and external stakeholders and prepare reports for any investigation where causal factors could be from a failure to comply with the WFR.

  • Undergo thorough investigation of premises, with the aim of limiting risks to public health and the public drinking water network.
  • Support the wider Water Regulations team in any educational events or other events related to water regulations.

  • To undertake additional roles as required by the Water Regulations Supervisor(s) and Water Regulation Policy Manager commensurate with the band of role.


  • You will also use / manage:
  • A company work vehicle to attend your planned appointments and meetings. Driving is a core requirement of this role, and you may be required to cover a large geographical area during your working day.

  • SAP Work Manager and Power BI.

  • Corporate office software such as MS Excel, MS Word software.

  • Company IMS forms and processes such as inspection forms and team risk assessments.

    A full UK manual driving licence

  • Knowledge of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 and its application (Desirable)

  • City and Guilds in Plumbing or NVQ equivalent (Desirable).

  • City and Guilds in Water Regulations for Enforcement Staff or equivalent (Desirable).

  • A good standard of education, with a sound understanding of Microsoft software packages including but not limited to Excel, Word, Access along with the company's internal SAP packages.

  • Good reporting / report writing ability

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills both written and oral which will enable you to deal with internal and external customers in a professional manner.

  • An accomplished officer with a proven track record of meeting required targets and with the ability to work to defined deadlines and prioritise workload to meet those deadlines.

  • Able to work using his or her own initiative, but equally the judgement of knowing his or her limits and when to seek help.

  • Mobile working

  • Mon - Thursday 0800-1600, Friday 0800-1530

  • Standby requirement (1 week in 6)

  • 260hrs of planned work time will be required.
