Full Job Description

The department enjoys superb facilities and consistently achieves excellent results at GCSE. This role is perfect for a candidate with a real passion for graphics, computer aided design and is able to work innovatively across multiple disciplines in a range of materials. The ideal candidate will be able to teach engaging, exciting high-quality lessons that help all students reach their creative potential.

Results over recent years have been excellent placing the department as one of the top performing subjects in the college and the country. The Graphics curriculum is delivered in a large double aspect Graphics studio equipped with a suite of PC's, a 3D printer and the latest adobe and industry standard CAD software.

Part of the success of this department is their strong commitment to a collaborative, team ethos where resources are freely shared and colleagues are keen to support one another to improve on skills, knowledge and understanding of the subject for the benefit of the students.

Design & Technology and Art at key stage 3 is taught in mixed ability groups (Class size 18 students) on a rotation with each module lasting 7-8 weeks; 4 lessons per fortnight. Students will study a mixture of subjects during the academic year including D&T Workshops, Art, Food and Nutrition, Textiles and Graphics.

D&T, Art and Food and Nutrition are extremely popular at GCSE with over 50% of students choosing at least one of these subjects. The subjects we currently offer at key stage 4 are AQA Design & Technology, AQA Art And Design and Food & Nutrition with the WJEC Exam Board.

D&T and Art facilities at Uppingham Community College

Uppingham has two multi-material workshops equipped with machines such as a plastic shredders and a sheet press, vacuum forming, injection moulding, bandsaws, wood and metal lathes, CAM routing and milling, various sanders, drilling, laser cutters and 3D printers. In addition to the 2 multi-material workshops there are 5 specific D&T and Art spaces each offering a specialised workspace and equipment. These are closely situated and include a designated exhibition/computer hub, a Food and Nutrition kitchen, a Textiles studio, double aspect Art and Design studio and a double aspect Graphics studio.

Three technicians support the D&T department; one technician is in the Workshops, one technician is based in food & nutrition and the other supports the D&T Textiles, Graphics and Art curriculum.
