Full Job Description

The senior staff nurse will work clinically on the 22 bedded trauma and Orthopaedic Ward. The post will also involve the Trauma Coordinator role which is rotated amongst all of the Band 6 staff on the T/O unit. The successful candidate will cover the Band 7 role during periods of Annual Leave. The role involves providing clinical leadership and expertise in managing this complex group of patients , It involves working very closely with the Orthogeriatric , Orthopaedic and wider MDT. There is a strong teaching element to the role . The Band 6 is expected to have expert knowledge about T&O and elderly patients.

  • Act as the clinical expert providing specialist knowledge and advice to Nurses, Therapist and junior medical staff working within the ward..

  • Communicate effectively within the multidisciplinary team, participate in motivating and supporting team members and maintain confidentiality with patients and staff. Give written and verbal advice/teaching to patients and carers.

  • Manage patient care according to agreed policies and protocols, taking appropriate action, seeking advice from other members of the multi-disciplinary team as necessary. This will include identification of risk (clinical, health, safety and security).

  • Closely monitor patients' status, ensuring all relevant observations/patient assessment criteria are accurately recorded and interpreted to ensure appropriate and timely corrective action is taken in accordance with current protocols, e.g. sepsis.

  • Undertake when fully trained and competent to undertake advanced nursing practices relevant to the clinical area.

  • Ensure that nursing procedures are performed in accordance with UHBW NHS Foundation Trust policies and local standard operating procedures, children, young people and vulnerable adults.
