Full Job Description

As a credible member of the Quality Policy and Compliance team, you will:

  • Provide a trusted, high quality service to customers, regulators and other external stakeholders, supporting the organisations vision to 'earn the trust of our customers every day'.

  • Ensure that sampling and analysis are carried out independently to meet the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 and that the company's statutory and regulatory responsibilities with regard to drinking water and wastewater are met and the regulatory risk to the business is managed effectively.


  • Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for the collection of all regulatory and non-regulatory sampling programmes to ensure they are collected, stored and transported in accordance with legislation and codes of practice, monitoring compliance with the programme and rescheduling where necessary.

  • To line manage the day-to-day activity of the compliance sampling technicians in accordance with all current HR policies prioritising sample requests understanding regulatory requirements, customer expectations, business reputation and cost.

  • Support the business in maintaining ISO 17025 (DWTS/MCERTS) for sampling.

  • Have an expert knowledge and understanding of the Drinking Water Quality Regulations in relation to the potable sampling programme and the OSM Operational Rules and Specification for Self-monitoring in relation to wastewater sampling.

  • Be a primary point of contact regarding sampling enquiries from both within and outside DCWW.

  • Be responsible for administering purchasing for the regional sampling team, raising purchasing requests, tracking delivery and completing the goods receipt process utilising the DCWW SRM system.

  • Lead the Regional QC Action Process, identifying and investigating non-conformances, developing and implementing corrective actions to address.

  • Provide expert support to process scientists and the laboratory regarding sampling activity.

  • Liaise with members of the public to arrange sampling appointments.

  • To ensure procedures and activities comply with all H&S legislation and DCWW Health &Safety policy in maintaining a safe working environment.

  • Understand the importance of maintaining compliance and the costs/risks associated with the failure to meet regulatory standards.

    Technical background: Qualified to degree level (equivalent relevant experience may be considered as an alternative to formal qualifications)

  • Minimum 3 Years experience in comparable water quality, scientific or regulatory role.

  • Chartered Technician (or working towards)

  • An expert knowledge and understanding of the Water Quality Regulations and associated guidance (in relation to sampling)

  • Have the ability to develop positive working relationships and to be seen as a highly credible representative of the business.

  • Knowledge and relevant experience of the water industry with a focus on water quality.

  • Must be able to demonstrate attention to detail

  • Be IT literate and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • An ability to ensure effective day to day delivery of services.

  • Full Driving Licence. Ability to travel as job requires
