Full Job Description

A Prosthetics Make-up Trainee at Casualty works with the Prosthetics Supervisor alongside the hair and make-up team. This 12 month opportunity gives the successful candidate the opportunity to spend time learning from one of the most creative, hardworking and fast-paced make-up teams in television.

The Casualty Make-Up Department has a real team spirit, with several levels of artists who all bring different skills and abilities into the mix, from the HOD, Designers, Assistants and Juniors. It's a fantastic place to learn and develop new skills while working your way up the ladder alongside so many experienced and talented people, plus the opportunity in getting your teeth into a long running diverse drama that's prime time television.

During the year, there will also be an opportunity to spend two weeks shadowing the EastEnders make-up team at the shows home in Elstree, London. Travel (one return), accommodation (13 nights) and evening meal allowance (13 nights) will be paid for by the placement.

What are the Prosthetics Make-up Trainee's Main Responsibilities?

The role of the Make-up Prosthetics Trainee reports to the Series Makeup Designer.

The Prosthetics Make-up Trainees main duties will include:

Make-up

- Interpreting the Makeup Supervisor's instructions and carrying out tasks to a high standard

- Liaising with all make-up and production staff to ensure that all deadlines are met

- Communicating with make-up colleagues, actors and other departments

- Setting up and maintaining workstations, including loading and unloading make-up and hair kits between locations

- Basic knowledge of script reading / breakdown, taking continuity into consideration

- To work with supporting artists (SA's) for crowd scenes

- To work under supervision of Prosthetics Make-up Supervisor

- Responsible for cleanliness and Health & Safety

This Prosthetics Make-up Trainee role on BAFTA award-winning medical drama Casualty could be the catalyst for your career in TV Drama., The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the principles, practices and roles for make-up and hairdressing in Television and Film Production as well as the familiarisation of Casualty, which can be viewed on BBC primetime and iPlayer.

To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the following criteria:

- At least 2/3 Years' Training from a BTEC/College of Further Education, HDN/HNC, Degree or a Level 4/5 NVQ

- A basic understanding of the various roles in design and production teams

- A confidence in carrying out general make-up applications and maintenance to a high standard and in fast-paced operational environment

- Be able to keep clean tidy work areas adhering to safe working practices that comply with the Health and Safety guidelines & legislation

- To be able to clearly and concisely communicate information

- To be able to problem-solve in creative ways

- To be able to deal with all colleagues, actors and supporting artists with diplomacy and tact

- A flexibility of working in different regions, with occasional night or weekend shoots

We would also ideally require the following:

- To have your own basic kit

- Good computer skills

- A clean and valid driving license

Casualty work to a 5 day week.
