Full Job Description

This is a unique opportunity to join a small team of creative, passionate food lovers and be part of a pioneering sustainable business. Packaging is core to Daylesford's values on sustainability. The Packaging Development Manager role involves sourcing the right packaging for the right product, managing the critical path for launch, and maintaining supply of packaging stocks.
RESPONSIBILITIES
SUPPLIER & PACKAGING MANAGEMENT:

  • Develop and grow existing and new supplier relationships with a focus on sustainability, innovation and cost


  • Regularly review slow moving packaging in the warehouse

  • Set up and maintain packaging supplier contracts

  • Carry out annual reviews with top 5 packaging suppliers

  • Identify and execute cost-saving initiatives and carry out tender process accordingly

  • Assist with ensuring that the packaging used in all products is safe and complies with all relevant legislation

  • Own accurate packaging master data on streetwise incl. costs and product set up

  • Support suppliers with sourcing and developing packaging for Daylesford products

  • Feed into weekly artwork priority schedule


  • PACKAGING DEVELOPMENT & SOURCING:
  • Own packaging critical paths for all NPD projects

  • Develop and source packaging to support all NPD within the food & home retail business, ensuring fit for purpose, adherence to cost parameters, and timely delivery against the critical path for each project

  • Coordinate packaging trials within our production units and attend trials, print runs and launches at 3rd party suppliers when required

  • Work closely with Creative to ensure business alignment on Daylesford look, feel and sourcing policy

  • Write packaging briefs to support suppliers with packing the finished product to the required standard

  • Input into post launch reviews and drive packaging improvements for the future


  • INNOVATION & SUSTAINABILITY:
  • Keep abreast of innovations within the packaging industry by proactively foraging, networking, use of supplier relationships and reading relevant industry literature to ensure that Daylesford remains first to market

  • Be the authority on all food packaging related matters within Daylesford

  • Identify and deliver innovative alternatives to current packaging materials to improve sustainability, cost and functionality


  • TEAM:
  • Line management of Packaging Coordinator

  • Provide leadership, coaching, learning and development across the team

  • Identify where training and support is needed

    3 years' experience packaging experience

  • High level knowledge of packaging & sustainability

  • Food background and understanding of manufacturing processes

  • Strong negotiation skills - track record in delivering significant savings

  • Line management experience

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Project management experience

  • Entrepreneurial and resourceful
