Reporting into the General Manager - Teesworks, the Operations Manager will be responsible for the safe, efficient and cost-effective management of a quayside management operation. The position requires a proactive approach to develop a sustainable workplace culture to exceed customer expectations in operational pe. Supporting performance with clear communication, proactive planning and operational reviews. Duties include (but not limited to):

  • Champion a high performance HSSEQ culture by leading by example as a visible safety leader.


  • Lead and manage the ASCO Teesworks operations providing direct decision making and leadership to direct reports who are at supervisor or above.


  • Responsible for the overall direction and performance of the ASCO Teesworks operational teams and ASCO controlled operational sites.


  • Improve processes and practices in support of organisational goals by applying LEAN and continuous improvement principles.


  • Lead and manage individual and team performance and development.


  • Responsible for proactively implementing safe working practice in line with HSSEQ guidelines and legislation.


  • In partnership with the HSSEQ department, ensure the continuous improvement of safety and environmental performance and compliance to all laws, regulations and industry standards/codes.


  • With support from ASCO Group, lead the integration of ASCO's iLMS operating system into the environment and with the Customer's Port Management System.


  • Use Power BI to report KPIs and build monthly reports.


  • Responsible for the successful 24/7/365 operation of Teesworks including recruitment, training and scheduling requirements.


  • Coordinate and monitor the effectiveness of operations to sustainably meet demand within safe operating limits.


  • Identify opportunities for growth; to introduce new products and services; cost reductions and cost efficiency savings.


  • Ensure that Assistant Operations Manager and Superintendents/Supervisors are fully trained to fulfil their operational activities and responsibilities, empowering them to fulfil their roles.


  • Support the General Manager - Teesworks with the management of the ASCO P&L.


  • Financial planning and budgetary control, and disposal cost effectiveness


  • Assist in the development and execution of business plans with a primary focus on widening the ASCO service offering at Teesworks and on profit growth.

  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree or experience relevant to the role


  • UK Driving Licence.

    A current Immigration Status Document containing a photograph issued by the Home Office to the holder with a valid endorsement indicating that the named person may stay in the UK, and is allowed to do the type of work in question, together with an official document giving the person's permanent National Insurance number and their name issued by a Government agency or a previous employer
