Full Job Description

We are looking for the next great addition to our IT team. As one of our 2 dedicated IT Managers you will operate in an exciting environment where no two days are the same. You will be responsible for supporting the 6 Royal Engineers Charities (known as the 'Sapper' Charities) with their day to day IT needs, helping maintain and manage our servers and back-up systems, and working with our Charities to ensure they are making the most of their current technology and upgrading where appropriate. We are therefore looking for someone with a good knowledge of IT hardware and software, ideally with experience of supporting EPOS, Servers and supporting remote working and Microsoft 365 users.

Personal Specification: The Corps Charities of the Royal Engineers have an exciting opportunity for an IT specialist to join our team. We are seeking a dynamic, knowledgeable and customer-focussed operative to work closely with our existing IT manager to effectively augment our existing IT support and enable all individual Sapper Charities to develop their technological infrastructures. As the Charities have varying remits and requirements, the ideal candidate will be able to simultaneously advise and monitor the unique requirements of all individual businesses and oversee the building-wide roadmap for all applications and hardware.

The post is responsible for delivering an IT system for 50 users, which includes supporting staff from 6 separate Charities: Royal Engineers Association (REA); Royal Engineers Museum, The Institution of Royal Engineers (InstRE), Corps Enterprises, RE-CPD (REVETT) and HQ Mess. The IT Managers role is to deliver an efficient and effective IT system that is physically and electronically secure and is fit for purpose, providing the necessary first line support to all RHQ RE stakeholders as necessary.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Roles and Responsibilities

· Manage Corps Charity Group IT networks, assure continuous system availability and functionality, whether on site or working remotely, during normal office hours. On a rostered basis, provide on call support for weekend operation of the RE Museum and any other charity event. Occasional evening support may also be required.

· Provide first line user and installation support for all network operators, including WFH connection support.

· Provide timely advice to management and operators on shortfalls in network effectiveness to preserve business outputs.

· Manage all Corps Charity Group hardware; maintain an up-to-date asset register, maintain and update workstations and sustain stocks of appropriate IT consumables.

· Maintain physical and electronic security measures to protect Corps Charity Group infrastructure and assets, and electronic data, including protection against electronic virus threats.

· Support wider RHQ as required.

· Help with the growth of SapperCom.

Objectives

· Keep up to date with changes to hardware operating systems and operating software.

· Keep up to date with developments in digital technology that pertain to charity and museum sector operations.

· Support each charity in the creation, planning and implementation of IT strategies.

· Recommend changes or enhancements to hard-and software ensuring that the charities are able to fully exploit relevant new technologies and maintain a high standard of service to their respected stakeholders and users.

· Support charity management in the planning and forecasting of IT budgets, providing advice on how to achieve best value for money and ensuring the Corps Charity roadmap of applications and hardware is maintained and monitored.

· Manage and advise external audit/accreditations and reviews of IT compliance, GDPR and security.

Knowledge of [key operating software eg. Microsoft 365 (and associated co working platforms and softwares, MAC, database operation, MS windows servers and exchange server, Broad knowledge of Vmware, Networking knowledge, Cisco security preferred, VEEAM software.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills in order to provide clear explanations and directions to a non-technical colleagues.

· The ability to work in partnership, managing and prioritising the differing demands of the charities within the Corps Charity Group.
