Full Job Description

To oversee and control the finance function and to manage administrative matters covering many aspects of the company activities. To take an active part in the daily performance of accounting and finance activities.

Responsibilities:

Accounting:

On a daily basis, supervision of two direct members of accounting staff:

1.Sales Order processing and Invoicing, ensuring timely and accurate functioning of sales despatch/invoicing process.

2.Purchasing and Purchase ledger, Bank and Cash.

Control of Procurement activity including direct setting of procurement levels for critical items and direct liaison with critical suppliers.

Preparation and control of all bank activity.

Preparation of Monthly management accounts.

Preparation of Annual Accounts in readiness for Audit/preparation of statutory accounts by external accountants.

Preparation and control of all payroll activity for all Group companies (approx. 46 employees in total, 3 payrolls).

Preparation of Company and Group budgets and cashflow forecasts.

Preparation and submission of Company VAT Returns.

Production:

Control of Production activity. Preparation, maintenance and update of Production Schedules (setting of Production targets).

Close working with Production Manager/Supervisor to ensure targets are sustainable and being met. Link with Procurement to ensure stock levels are appropriate.

Product costing - control over product costings for management purposes. Preparation of Product Costing reports for senior management use.

Stock control - establish, review and control processes for ensuring stock accuracy. Very close liaison on a daily basis with Stores staff.

Other areas

Company interface with external agencies covering Finance, Personnel, HMRC, Legal and contractual matters.

Personnel - any staffing issues, dealing with Grievance and Disciplinary matters.

Review, interpretation and preparation of legal documentation, contracts etc.

Liaising with Landlord and external agencies re building maintenance and property related issues.

Submission of ONS reports and WEEE reports.

Drafting and maintenance of Company Policy statements.

Strong analytical skills, multi-tasking and good at problem resolution.

This is a very hands-on role in a small accounting department. It requires somebody who is prepared to do basic accounting, financial and other tasks themselves on a day to day basis, as well as fulfil supervisory roles and they must be able and willing to step in and provide cover for holiday, sickness when required.

The company will shortly be introducing as new accounting system therefore experience of system implementation would be useful.

Strong Excel skills.

Qualifications: Accountancy qualification (ACA or ACMA) or Non qualified candidates with appropriate levels of experience will be considered.,

  • Accounting: 5 years (preferred)

    Remuneration package:


  • Salary £55,000 to £70,000 dependent on experience and/or qualification.

    Bonus scheme based on performance

    Holidays: 5 weeks (calculated hourly based on 4 or 5 day week - see below) + bank holidays.

    Company car or car allowance (by negotiation).

    Hours:

    Monday to Thursday: 8.30 am to 5 pm, Friday: 8.30 am to 1pm

    The company is currently in an experimental period of working a 4 day week (Monday to Thursday) on full pay. However, the formal hours remain as shown above.
