Full Job Description

  • Building, refining, and managing detailed economic models based on theories of change to explain and support the benefits of GEL's endeavors across healthcare, the public sector, and the wider economy. These models primarily utilse Excel, including VBA, with potential integration of R or Python.

  • Conducting cost/benefit analyses for fiscal events and HM Treasury spending reviews in close collaboration with governmental and NHS partners.

  • Utilising national health economic data and Genomics England-specific data to gauge the macro-economic impact of integrating genomic medicine into the NHS.

  • Conducting comprehensive research and critical appraisal of medical and economic literature to identify suitable model inputs

  • Presenting model outputs to senior internal and external stakeholders.

  • Supporting business development and funding application endeavors by furnishing analytical insights and data.

  • Knowledge and experience of building economic models, such as budget impact and/or patient simulation models, and executing economic analyses

  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel and VBA in particular)

  • Highly numerate and strong analytical skills

  • A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Ability to quickly interpret and manipulate raw data, provide analysis & conclusions and present it in an accessible way


  • Desirable skills:
  • A good grasp of health economic principles, and ability to apply these to projects

  • Experience of public sector economic modelling, with knowledge of Green Book

  • Experience of having applied economic and mathematical modelling techniques in a healthcare setting

  • Experience of literature reviewing and evidence synthesis

  • Experience performing statistical analysis using software such as R, Python or SQL, Minimum degree level (or equivalent) in economics, mathematics, or related field

    Genomics England partners with the NHS to provide whole genome sequencing diagnostics. We also equip researchers to find the causes of disease and develop new treatments - with patients and participants at the heart of it all.

    Salary from: £48,500

    Genomics England operates a blended working model as we know our people appreciate the flexibility. We expect most people to come into the office 2 times each month as a minimum. However, this will vary according to role and will be agreed with your team leader. There is no expectation that staff will return to the office full time unless they want to, however, some of our roles require you to be on site full time e.g., lab teams, reception team.
