Full Job Description

Hours: 8.30am-5.00pm Monday to Friday. Flexibility may be required in order to meet the operational needs of the business., ProHort Ltd are looking for an experienced ecologist to head up the ecology side of the business. ProHort is a growing business, based in the arboriculture, ecological and landscape development industries and focused on providing a high-quality service to all our clients. We provide a wide range of services, including:

  • Arboricultural surveys.

  • Soil and leaf testing.

  • LVIAs and landscape schemes.

  • Protected species surveys, including bats.

  • Phase 1 Extended Ecological surveys.

  • UK Habitat Mapping and Classification.

  • Biodiversity Net Gain matrix calculations.


  • The Ecologist would be responsible for conducting a range of different surveys throughout the UK, originating from our base in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. The ideal candidate would have a wide range of experience across various aspects of ecology, including protected species and bats, and would have a passion for providing high quality surveys and reports.

  • Bachelor's degree in Ecology or related subject, or previous relevant experience.

  • Knowledge of core ecological surveys, protected species surveys including bats and biodiversity net gain.

  • EPS Great Crested Newt and Bat Licence.

  • Comfortable working outside in all weather conditions.

  • Happy to travel on a regular basis with a full driver's license.

  • Well presented, with a confident and friendly manner.

  • Competent using Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.

  • Intermediate computer literacy.

  • A team player - happy to work with other members of the team to achieve goals.

  • Work to a high standard, showing attention to detail, showing care and thought in all that you do.
