Full Job Description

London Borough of Croydon is looking for an experienced DoLS Planning officer/ administrative Coordinator to shape the delivery of the authorities duties under the Mental Capacity Act relating to deprivation of liberty.

An opportunity has arisen for an individual to join the Croydon's Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Team as Planning Officer/Coordinator. The Mental Capacity Act sets in place a number of safeguards to ensure those who lack capacity are supported in a way that reflects their best interests. These processes take into account medical and professional opinion alongside the views of close family members and friends.

The role of a DoLS planning officer is to ensure these complex processes run smoothly and incudes

  • To ensure all Deprivation of Liberty Safeguard (DOLS) applications are recorded appropriately and gather further information if required under the guidance of the Team Manager.


  • To prioritise the urgent applications escalating to the DoLS Lead for support as necessary


  • To ensure robust data collection as detailed in the DOLs Processes.


  • To ensure that all contacts are signposted to and are handed over to appropriate staff and services for swift action.


  • To support the MCA & DoLS Team manager to ensure DOLS enquiries are appropriately progressed and relevant assessments are requested and received and all forms are completed to a specified data quality standard.


  • These posts are ideally suited to individuals with good organisational skills, an eye for detail and the ability to communicate well with a range of colleagues and members of the public.


  • Managing a list of approved s12 doctors and independent BIA's. Making decisions, in consultation as needed with the MCA/DOLS manager, about the allocation of individual assessments to in-house or independent BIA's and s12 doctors
