Full Job Description

We are recruiting a Development Manager to work with us to fight for disability rights on Teesside. The role has lots of autonomy, and you will work as part of a supportive team of disabled activists and campaigners. This is the perfect position for an ambitious and inspirational individual who would like to work flexibly from home.

The essence of this position
You will become a strong disability voice and presence on Teesside, representing the needs and wishes, and upholding the rights of disabled people. You will take Difference's strategy and plans and apply them to the Teesside region of the North East. Over time you'll develop your own campaigns, policy and representation portfolio and you will become the first port of call for disability rights-related inquiries across the region.

The main areas you will be responsible for delivering:

  • Being a visible face of Difference: You will reactively and proactively respond to approaches and engage with a range of organisations including local authorities, voluntary sector organisations, government departments and the press, when opportunities arise.

  • Building relationships, increasing awareness and creating change: You will engage and develop relationships with organisations in Teesside to influence and create change. This includes training and awareness raising in front of diverse audiences and becoming part of existing networks.

  • Representing and engaging disabled people: You will be the voice of disabled people. You will creatively engage with other disabled people across the region enabling their voices to be heard. You will campaign on things that we already know about, like inaccessible transport, and you will work with other disabled people, to prioritise these and/or new areas of need whilst increasing our membership.

  • The tasks for this position include:
  • Develop plans for the Charity's goals and activities, reflecting the needs of the North East disabled community and available skills and resources.

  • Developing and facilitating engaging and accessible consultation opportunities and events with our members, allies and other stakeholders.

  • Developing and delivering training and awareness raising.

  • Creation of impactful, accessible, and professional documents, presentations, web content and newsletters.

  • In collaboration with our other manager and development director, share administrative and organisational development tasks as is necessary/agreed.

  • Monitor progress and developments against plans and report to the Director, Board and Funders.

  • Grow the Charity's membership.

  • A range of other shared tasks and responsibilities commensurate with a small, growing voluntary sector organisation.

  • Line managing staff either presently or in the future if additional team members are appointed.

  • What we can offer you
You will be joining a small and passionate team of disability rights activists. We are committed to making sure that work is accessible for our team and are open to new and experimental ways of making this work for you. You will work flexibly from day one and have control over your working hours. You will have access to a staff wellbeing plan with ongoing support from your line manager. We are a learning organisation and part of that is making sure staff have opportunities to learn, grow and develop professionally and personally.
