Full Job Description

We are looking for a qualified and experienced policy/community planner to help us prepare a statutory development plan for the Peak District National Park and to develop and deliver a programme of interventions that support local communities, including neighbourhood plans, community grants and other community-led projects.

In the role you will be responsible for:

  • researching, reviewing and formulating planning policies for the National Park's Local Development Plan

  • giving advice and assistance to parish councils undertaking neighbourhood plans

  • developing and delivering a programme of interventions in relation to non-statutory village plans/village statements and community-led projects including for affordable housing, community facilities or any community project that helps to deliver National Park purposes

  • managing the Community Small Grant

You should be a qualified town and country planner with working knowledge of the UK Planning System especially for Local Planning and Neighbourhood Plans, and how this interacts with legislation and guidance regarding the purposes and duty of a national park. You must also be able to analyse complex issues and be able to communicate this to different audiences. Experience of working with community groups is essential.

The Peak District National Park was the first of Britain's 15 national parks and is still enjoyed by millions, looking for both adventure and a breathing space to escape. It is also the most accessible due its proximity to four major cities of the UK and its 38,000 residents. We recognise the importance of our national park and our job is to speak up and care for the Peak District National Park for all to enjoy forever.

We offer a range of staff benefits including flexi-time, a great pension with employer contribution of 19.57%, 26-31 days' holiday plus Bank Holidays and free parking at most of our offices. Please look at our Total Reward Brochure to see what we offer.
