Full Job Description

As a Commercialisation Manager you will lead on the development and commercialisation of a portfolio of projects. The role is highly varied as you will be responsible for the effective management of projects from initial contact with academic inventors to successful commercialisation of their ideas. You will seek out new opportunities, evaluate commercial value and implement commercialisation strategies. You will work with a variety of stakeholders including academics, funders, licensees, and investors.

You will find a breadth of scientific diversity within physical sciences stimulating and see the challenge of managing a portfolio of projects at different stages of development as exciting. Based at the heart of Europe's most successful innovation cluster, you will be working with cutting edge technologies and will be able to help these discoveries make a difference in the world.

You will likely have a PhD in physical sciences and have demonstrable experience in a broader variety of physical science disciplines. You will also have experience in a commercial environment together with skills in commercialising technology and intellectual property including a track record of doing deals.

You will have excellent organisation skills and can manage a portfolio of projects on an ongoing basis. You are an excellent communicator, team worker and commercial negotiator.

In addition, you will:

  • Hold a degree in a relevant scientific or technical field.

  • Demonstrate excellent organisation, time management, and multitasking abilities.

  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and can manage relationships with stakeholders effectively.

  • Think analytically and have commercial experience in a knowledge-based business.

  • Be familiar with the patenting process, technology transfer, and contract negotiation.

  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills able to influence outcomes with proposed solutions.

  • Make responsible decisions on portfolio management, agreements negotiation, and resource deployment.

  • Communicate complex information clearly and effectively to both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Exhibit high accuracy, attention to detail, and effective time management., Experience of undertaking academic research, potentially to PhD level

  • Demonstrable experience (including decision making) in technology transfer, marketing of technologies, contract negotiation and intellectual property

  • Knowledge and understanding of the University sector
