We offer a range of learning and development for all employees may you be clinical or non-clinical., The position will give the intern an opportunity to learn and develop skills relevant to a career in the NHS as a Clinical Engineer and will involve close supervision from experienced Clinical Engineers and Technologists, as no prior experience is expected.

The post will rotate through different areas of Clinical Engineering in a busy large acute hospital, experiencing and contributing to the work of the department. This will include work-based assessment of progress and learning., The successful candidate will learn how support activities are organised and carried out, including:

  • Asset management systems.

  • Device utilisation optimisation.

  • Scheduling of work.

  • Production of specifications for medical devices, routine maintenance and repairs.

  • Development of key performance indicators, applicable regulations governance and reporting arrangements for medical devices, and research and development of medical devices., Assist in the administration of Clinical Engineering including:

  • + work requests
    + purchase orders
    + good in
    + spares management
    + rotas
  • Assist in technical activities including:

  • + planned preventative maintenance
    + repairs
    + upgrades
  • Assist with Medical Devices Management tasks:

  • + specifications
    + procurement
    + acceptance
    + user training
    + contracts
    + decommissioning & disposal
  • Equipment library tasks

  • Assist with Medical Devices safety:

  • + medical device alerts and Field Safety Notices
    + incident investigations
  • Quality Management:

  • + process development and improvement
    + audit
  • Project Management

  • Research & Development:

  • + where available and appropriate, the intern will be given the chance to contribute to R&D projects being undertaken in Clinical Engineering
  • Personal Development:

  • + takes responsibility for attending statutory & mandatory training in accordance with the Trust's training needs analysis and mandatory training matrix
    + makes effective use of e-learning opportunities to achieve compliance with mandatory training
    + works in partnership with their Manager to develop and deliver on Specific, Measureable, Achievable and Time framed (SMART) objectives at annual appraisal and personal development planning, The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

  • BTEC/NVQ Level 3 in relevant engineering / technical discipline or equivalent, Customer service course, Advanced IT skills, including Office suite and specialist software systems; able to manage and report information, Experience in electrical or electronics and mechanical engineering / technology, Basic understanding of the need for medical devices in healthcare

  • Basic awareness of patient and staff risks regarding medical equipment
